Nursing home abuse is a terrible crime that affects thousands, if not millions, of American elders each year. It is not an act limited to just physical violence, however. There are many forms of nursing home abuse, including financial abuse.
A recent story out of Sumter County, South Carolina plays as an unfortunate example of financial nursing home abuse. A woman working at the Blue Ridge Healthcare center for elderly and assisted living residents has been arrested and charged for stealing money from an elder there. She has been accused of taking at least $600 by stealing a credit card and making unauthorized purchases with it.
To make the matter all the more upsetting, the elderly victim was only at that assisted living center due to displacement caused by Hurricane Michael. The oncoming hurricane forced her to leave her normal place of residence in Georgetown, only to face other trials in the nursing home.
